How to schedule texts on iPhone & Android

How to schedule a text

You can schedule text messages from an iPhone, Android, computer, and many tablet devices.

To schedule a text message on iPhone (iOS 18+), open Messages, compose your message, tap the + icon next to the text field, then press Send Later button to select a send time. On Android, use Google Messages: compose, long-press send, then pick a date and time to schedule it. For business texting, platforms like Quo let you schedule from desktop or mobile, with team visibility into all scheduled messages across your business numbers.

In this guide, I’ll break down how to schedule texts, including the most effective methods. Plus, you’ll find out the best times of day to schedule text messages and common scenarios where you’ll need to use more advanced scheduling features.

Why schedule business texts?

Scheduling a text isn’t just a convenience feature — there are real business reasons to use it.

  • TCPA compliance. Federal law restricts when you can send marketing messages, and accidentally texting a customer after 9 p.m. can create legal exposure. Scheduling lets you set messages to go out during TCPA-compliant hours without having to babysit the clock.
  • Better response rates. One study found that texts sent in the early evening, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., are the best for conversion rates. Scheduling makes it easy to hit that window, even when you’re drafting messages at 7 a.m. or wrapping up work late at night. See when to schedule business texts for a full breakdown.
  • Batch your outreach. Instead of interrupting your day to send individual follow-ups, you can block time once a week, write your messages in bulk, and schedule them to go out at the right time for each recipient.
  • Never drop the ball on a follow-up. Every sales or service rep has let a “circle back in a week” slip through the cracks. Scheduled texts remove the mental overhead — you write it, you set it, and it goes out when it should.

In iOS 18+, go to Messages, find the conversation, and tap Edit beside the date above the scheduled message. From there you can reschedule the time or send it immediately. To edit the message content, touch and hold the message bubble, then tap Edit. Make any changes, then tap the Send Edit button to resend with edits or the Cancel Edit button to revert.

How to schedule a text message on an Android

With an Android 7 or later, you can queue up a message to send at a specific time. Some features are limited, so third-party text message scheduling apps might be a better alternative. Text message scheduling is also available on the Quo Android app, along with dozens of other ways to save time texting, including snippets, auto-replies, and the Quo Zapier integration.

Use the Google Messages app

To schedule texts through Google Messages:

  1. Open your Messages app and write a text in the message section without sending it.
  2. Press the Send button by holding it down.
  3. Choose the date and time you’d like to schedule the text message, then tap Next and Send.

How teams schedule business texts

Scheduling a text from your phone works fine for personal reminders. But when you’re running a business — managing follow-ups, confirmations, and outreach across a team — you need more than a native messaging app can offer.

Here’s what scheduling looks like when it’s built for business use:

  • Schedule from your desk, not just your phone. With Quo’s desktop and web app, you can send text messages from your computer while you’re working — no phone required. Draft a message, click the clock icon, pick a time, and keep moving.
  • Set it and forget it, with a safety net. Quo lets you add a condition to any scheduled text: if the recipient messages you first, Quo automatically cancels the scheduled send and saves it as a draft. No awkward “just following up” texts landing after a customer already replied.
  • Schedule around their time zone. Quo defaults to your contact’s time zone based on their area code. No need to mentally convert 3 p.m. EST to Pacific before every send. You can also override it if they’ve moved.
  • Template and schedule in one step. Pull up a snippet, set a send time, done. No rewriting the same follow-up from scratch or copying and pasting to send texts to multiple people.
  • Trigger scheduled texts from your CRM. If you want to go further, Quo connects with Zapier and Make to send texts based on business events. For example, you can trigger a confirmation text that goes out automatically when someone books an appointment, or a follow-up that sends the day after a job is marked complete.
  • See what’s queued across your whole team. With native apps, there’s no way to know what scheduled messages your teammates have set up. Quo gives everyone visibility into what’s scheduled across all your business numbers — so nothing sends twice and nothing falls through.

2. Use the Quo iOS or Android app

With the Quo mobile app, you can schedule text messages from your iPhone or iPad. If you’re an Android user, you can follow the steps below to schedule a text from an Android device.

How to cancel or edit a scheduled text message on Quo

In case you change your mind about a queued-up message before it goes out, Quo lets you edit or cancel the message any time before it’s sent. This means you can avoid creating uncomfortable situations, like sending a scheduled payment reminder text when the payment has already been made.

3 situations you should schedule texts to customers

Besides marketing campaigns, below are common situations for when businesses should send scheduled texts to customers.

  1. Confirm or remind your contacts of an appointment. Consider scheduling automatic touchpoints with your contacts if they request an appointment with your business. For example, appointment confirmation texts can go out after they book time with you. Appointment reminder texts help reduce no-shows and last-minute cancellations.
  2. Send texts to community members. For example, a property manager might send a message to all community members when there’s an elevator down, water shut off, or other relevant issue that needs to be addressed. In this case, people who live in the building will appreciate knowing this information, as it directly affects them — and they may not have checked their email.
  3. You’re gathering feedback: If you’re collecting customer feedback for your team or conducting a research study, you can break outside people’s unread emails by sending a text message instead.
