"I thought Zoom Phone would be a good option for me, but the customization was really clunky — simple tasks like setting after-hours voicemails took me way more time than they should have.

Quo is so much more intuitive — it keeps all my communications organized. Automatic call transcription and no-code call routing are standout features for me, and their customer support is super responsive!"

What is a Canadian virtual number, and how does it work?

A Canadian virtual phone number lets you call and text from almost anywhere. It isn’t tied to a SIM card or an eSIM, so you can use it across multiple devices.

Virtual numbers work by sending calls and texts over the internet. They convert analog voice signals into digital data packets and route them through a VoIP server to your recipients. They then convert these packets back into voice signals to facilitate your conversations. Virtual phone providers can do this in milliseconds with high-bandwidth internet connections.

Do I need to live in Canada to get a Canadian virtual number?

No, you don’t. You can get a virtual phone number from anywhere in the world with Quo. The only requirement is to verify your identity with a separate cellular phone number and a credit card. This helps us cut down on bots and scammers from accessing the virtual numbers we provide.

Who owns my Canadian virtual number?

You do! Once we assign your number, it’s yours to use. If you decide to switch providers, you can even take your number with you.

How much do virtual numbers in Canada cost per month?

Virtual number costs can vary depending on the Canadian VoIP provider. At Quo, you can get a Canadian phone number starting at $15 USD per user per month. Each user on your plan includes one unique local or toll-free number. You can purchase additional virtual numbers for $5 USD per number per month.

What are the legal requirements for using a Canadian phone number for business purposes?

If you’re using your Canadian number for business SMS, you’ll need to follow:

- CASL, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, guidelines. This includes getting consent before sending marketing texts and including opt-out mechanisms in every message.
– National Do Not Call List. Businesses must register with the DNCL and scrub call lists before making outbound telemarketing calls.
– PIPEDA. Handle customer data collected via calls or messages in compliance with Canada’s privacy law.
– Call recording. One-party consent is generally required federally, but it’s best practice to inform callers. Businesses subject to PIPEDA must inform callers that they’re recording a call. Call recording disclosures are fundamental to staying compliant. Some provinces and industries, like healthcare, have additional requirements. If you’re unsure, consult a Canadian privacy or telecom lawyer.
